Crazy

so Hildegard Von Bingen was born and sent as a tithe to the church and once established in the church, was moved to the monastery at Disenbodenberg. while there, she began feeling as if the divine spirit was talking thru her, casuing her to compose long vitae to god, and she also painted, viewed herself as a prophet, mainly composing and contributing to god thru song and paint.

going thru this in class, the professor offhandedly mentions that she was also accused of being on drugs when she composed and painted (her paintings do look like they were constructed while on a major hallucinogen). he also says that basically thats bullshit...

this, of course, prompts me to go research her further. the monastery that she was at, however, never successfully developed a village around it, which is "a shame" because its such a beautiful area. the reson for this is that every family scavenging for food around this spot went "crazy". guess what grows around the monastery.

DMT. a strong hallucinogen, schedule 1 drug in the US. this is the drug that can easily be eaten as it grows in forests, near rivers, and generally anywhere thats pretty. this is also the drug that grows in/near salem. remember the witch trials?

apparently "bad trips" result in the same visions for everyone, or at least with variations that are insignificant. they include: black shapes, catlike, "witches" on broomstick, terror, fear, and paranoia.

"good trips" however, result in ecstatic revelation, megalomania, prophetic feelings (feeling as if you know whats going to happen, teleological visions, whatnot), profound time-dilation, visual and audio hallucinations, and other experiences that, by most first hand accounts, defy verbal or visual description. Some users report intense erotic imagery and sensations and utilize the drug in a ritual sexual context.

"Professor Alan Watts described the effects of DMT as "Load universe into cannon. Aim at brain. Fire."" (wikipedia)

i find that interesting...
